Thoughts on Life and Stuff (TOLAS)

Random in both frequency and topic, this is my life. Sort of.

The way to a man's heart...

This will not surprise many of you out there, but it turns out I'm very easy to bribe. Home made cookies are like kryptonite to me, even more so than Hostess Cup Cakes and Centrum chewables. I've been convinced of many a thing by cookies, now that I think about it. And apparently people know this well. So all you ladies out there, looking for an "in", it's as easy as flour, butter, and sugar. Plus whatever else you put in cookies to make them good. And they have to be cooked too. I can make the dough myself thank you. Conversely, those looking for an "out", making cookies is not it. I recommend the following: Acid in the face; Saying things like "aren't the Yankees a good baseball team" and "The patriot's 3 superbowls are a fluke"; Cookies with acid in them; Declaring that everything you cook will have the three food groups (onions, mushrooms, and seafood). So there you go. Mmmmm, cookies... And brownies...

TOLAS Memories

So apparently my old TOLAS is still lingering on the Internet, as things tend to do. It appears I had a loyal reader base, which I no doubt alienated when I it closed down. I had some pretty weird stuff on there. You may remember the dream I had about the jewel/identity thief professor impostor, or the missives about Mike The Nut, my loyal but ill-fated mascot, or the thoughts about eating pet chickens... I remembered none of them till I looked back. You can't get to them unless you are a Mindsay member, but if there's popular demand, I can bring them back for your enjoyment/horror.

Poor Mike the Nut. What a terrible way to die: eaten from the inside out by a worm that poops acid then smashed open so the worm's reign of terror could be stopped before it reproduced. On second thought, why didn't I keep the worm as my new mascot? It only seems logical. It defeated the old mascot, so therefore should be the new one. I can't imagine he'd like having a face draw on him in pen though, and he'd require upkeep. No, it was better for them both to go. But let's remember Mike the Nut fondly, before the worm ate his guts and burned holes through my computer stand.

Quote of the Day:
"Halo 2 is a lot like Halo 1, only it's Halo 1 on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas ... And, the ninjas are all on fire, too" --some random place on the Internet

Math Problems

Looking over my last post, turns out negative numbers don't fall under a 1-10 scale... So that's a mistake. Check my addition too; not sure I can trust anything anymore.

Other notes from the day

Pillsbury Cinnamon rolls make an amazing dinner

My Centrum chewable vitamins taste like bad orange sweet tarts. Whenever I have one, I always think about taking a second, partly because it's almost good, but also to kill the chalky after taste of the first one. Very strange.

Don't let what's wrong with you keep you from worshiping what's right about God...

New Office

So I moved offices on Monday, and I think it's time to give an in-depth analysis of the change. I moved from the 5th floor to the exact same office on the 6th floor. Same size, same location, setup, everything.

Things I gained (score, on 1-10 scale):

Whiteboard and supplies (7) -- Definite bonus. Would be higher, but it doesn't erase well and is a little small. Would be lower, but previous tenant left some Expo wipes that clean it well. Would be higher, but why should I have to use wet wipes on a dry erase board? 7 is about right. Also, makes it so my movable shelf has to be up on the back desk rather than the floor.

Random Files (-2) -- Not sure what they are, but I have to keep them, because that's how things work there. Nothing can be thrown out; it just gets passed on to the new guy. Take up what was previously my food drawer. Might be useful at some later date, or else would be lower.

Picture of Pentagon with flag on it (3) -- This hangs above the window to the hall. Doesn't do much, but I have a hard time dissing it or taking it down.

Dust (-5) -- My old office was cleaned before I got there, but this one had some wear and tear. Fantastik and I taught it a lesson, though.

Random computer parts (2) -- Take up space in my file cabinet, but I have nothing to put there anyway. Spare keyboard, mouse, Zip disks, and other odds and ends. Good for backups. Also, if I'm ever trapped in the building and there's an acid leak or something, I can definitely MacGyver those into something useful. Let's make it a (5) then.

Other random office supplies (2) -- Some gewgaws and gimcracks that might be useful and take up what was unused space anyway.

Lunch Tray (5) -- Can return to the glory days of college with tray sledding, if it ever snows down here. Might get busted for stealing from the cafe.

Broken Doorstop (-3) -- Came right out of the concrete. More of a doorslow now. Hopefully will be replaced.

Broken Desk (2) -- Was negative, but I fixed it, and my manliness was affirmed with the use of tools to fix something broken, so it's a plus now. The doorslow project requires tools I don't have, which might reduce my manliness, but I apparently don't care.

Things I lost:

Doug, guy across the hall (-10) -- He was cool. Plays bass at church, knows where Pizza (the) Hutt and the Greek place and other hot lunch spots are. Showed me secret candy stash. His replacement, John, gave me random files to add to my random file collection. Doug gave me no files. This might change if John displays coolness

Graveyard feel (3) -- My old hall was D-E-A-D. Lots of vacant office. Good for focusing, bad for morale. I like morale, so people are good. Plus, most of the people I work with are on the 6th floor, so that makes things good. But now it's easier for them to demand stuff from me, so that makes things bad. I still say it's good.

5th Floor convenience (-4) -- I live on the 5th floor, I worked on the 5th floor. 50% of the time I was in an elevator, I hit "5". No longer the case. This will confuse me for a while.

Other Notes:
Free candy stash farther away, but good (pay for) candy stash closer. I'll still use both, so it's a wash.
My chair came with me. That's important, but adds no points.

Let's tally the results! 27 points on the good side of the new office, and 24 against the move. Looks like the 6th floor wins! Pretty close though. That MacGyver bonus for the computer parts came up HUGE for pro-move. MacGyver = Adam Vinateri. So I guess I'm for the move then. Good to have the numbers out there to prove it.

TOLAS returns

I'm gonna try this again. We'll see how it goes...
